Chaffee girls track team ties for third place in Class 1

Junior Luisa Boschan's state title in the 1,600 meters helped the Chaffee girls team tie for third place in the Class 1 state track and field meet Friday and Saturday in Jefferson City, Mo.

"We got on the podium again," Chaffee coach Tyson Moyers said. "That was kind of goal coming up here, as far as the girls team."

Boschan, a foreign-exchange student from Germany, finished the 1,600 in 5 minutes, 20.19 seconds, which was almost 7 seconds better than the second-place finisher. Boschan, who won the Class 1 state title in cross country in November, added a second in the 3,200 and third in the 800.

Ellie Sigman placed second in the long jump for Chaffee, while the Red Devils' 3,200 relay of Taylor Kirchdoerfer, Sarah Sigman, Sierra Miller and Boschan took third.

"We thought we had a chance to win the title, but we were going to have to really run well in everything to do that," Moyers said. "Mound City scored 55 points, and that's quite a bit. ... We're thrilled, especially with the heat [Saturday]."

Oran's Haley Glastetter brought home a state title by winning the Class 1 100 hurdles. She crossed the line in 16.62.

The Chaffee boys got an all-state performance from the 800 relay. Tyson Estes, Jason Cicardi, Zach Dannenmueller and Jordan Yahn teamed to place third. Yahn was fourth in the 800.

In Class 2, Scott City's Brandon Shemonia placed third in the 3,200, while teammate Garett Schaefer was third in the 200.

Scott City's 400 relay team of Brandon DeProw, Alex Eichhorn, Schaefer and Ethan Woods placed fourth to help the Rams finish 13th with 19 points.

Scott City's Melanie Lacey placed third in the 3,200, while the Rams' 800 relay team of Katie Rhymer, Miranda Brashear, Erika Medlin and Heather Keesee finished third.

Scott City senior Stephanie Essner, who will compete at Southeast Missouri State next season, was fourth in the 400.

Kelly senior Londyn Backfisch took fourth in the 200.
