CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Chaffee collected its 11th straight victory as it moved into the semifinals of its own Red Devils Baseball Classic Friday with an 8-0 victory over Dexter at Harmon Field.

Matt Stroup and Rusty Duncan combined on the three-hit shutout.

The Red Devils will face New Madrid in today's 9:30 a.m. semifinal. Oran, a 12-11 winner over Scott City, will meet the Senath-Hornersville-Shawnee winner at 11:45 a.m. Results of that game were not available at press time.

Chaffee (11-1) collected six hits in its victory with Jeremy Lynn leading the way with a 3-for-4 performance. Perry Rice added a pair of hits.

After scoring two runs in each of the first two innings, Chaffee added four runs in the sixth.

Stroup allowed three hits and struck out eight in five innings. Duncan followed with two hitless innings.

Oran used an eight-run fifth inning as it rallied to victory. Nathan Seyer, who went 4-for-5 with six runs batted in, had staked Oran to a 3-0 lead in the third inning with a three-run homer, but Scott City (3-7) moved ahead with one run in the third and seven in the fourth. Scott City chased Oran starter Trey Graviett in the fourth after the Eagle hurler had struck out seven of eight to start the game.

Scott City led 11-4 heading into the bottom of the fourth when it changed pitchers. New hurler Steven Posey was unable to retire a batter in the inning as he surrendered four hits and walked a batter.

Jeremy Glastetter had two hits and three RBIs for Scott City. Ben Sample added a pair of hits.

The championship game is scheduled for today at 6:45 p.m.

St. Vincent 11, Crystal City 3

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- In a game of defending state champions, the St. Vincent Indians came out on top.

Derek Kutz got the win for St. Vincent, last year's 1A state champion. He went seven innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on seven hits and two walks. He struck out five.

"It was nice to play a little better," St. Vincent coach Rick Wibbenmeyer said. "We had lost five in a row so it was nice to get a win. I just hope we're getting better."

Kutz also had a great day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four runs batted in, a triple and two stolen bases. He also stole two bases.

Tyler Wengert went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Crystal City won the 2A title a year ago.

Jackson 7, Fredericktown 5

FREDERICKTOWN, Mo. -- Jackson (6-7) used a two-run double by Garrett Williams, a two-run triple by Ricky Renfroe and a two-run homer by Patrick Kohm to slip past Fredericktown.

Renfroe and Williams both had two hits.

Bryan Austin picked up the win in relief. He pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed two runs, both earned, on five hits and one walk. He struck out one.

Oak Ridge 4, Leopold 1

OAK RIDGE, Mo. -- Beau Morrison held Leopold to just one run on four hits and no walks as Oak Ridge improved to 4-3. Morrison struck out six.

At the plate for Oak Ridge, Clayton Ruesler and Jeff Cowan had two hits each. Cowan had two runs batted in.

Leopold's Paul Hutchings suffered the loss.

Chaffee Tournament

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- East Prairie scored eight runs in the top of the eighth inning to squander Chaffee's amazing ninth-inning comeback in the first round of Chaffee's Lady Red Devil Classic as the Lady Devils fell 14-7.

In other games, Oran knocked off Meadow Heights 15-4, Advance doubled up Dexter 14-7 and Egyptian (Ill.) beat Scott City 6-0.

Trailing 6-2 going into the bottom of the seventh, Chaffee (6-1) rallied to score four runs with two outs to send the game to an extra inning, but East Prairie exploded for eight runs to put the game away.

For Chaffee, Ashley Pepple suffered the loss. She went 7 1/3 innings and allowed 12 runs -- most of which were unearned -- on 11 hits and no walks while striking out seven. Casey Graviett led Chaffee with three hits, while Abby Walter and Jennifer Vandeven each had two.

In the Oran game, Teresa Hodges got the win for the Lady Eagles (8-1). She went the distance and allowed four runs, all unearned, on two hits and 12 walks. She fanned eight.

At the plate, Hodges went 2-for-3 with four runs batted in. Carrie Mosebach went 2-for-3 with one RBI. .

Chaffee will face Meadow Heights and Dexter will take on Scott City in consolation play at 9 a.m. today. The winners' bracket semifinals will feature East Prairie vs. Oran and Egyptian vs. Advance at 11 a.m.

GOLF

Notre Dame wins triangular

Notre Dame edged Jackson by just one stroke in a triangular meet with New Madrid.

The Bulldogs, led by medalist Tim Buerck's par-35 at Kimbeland Country Club, posted a 158, while Jackson scored a 159 and New Madrid 175.

Nick Martin (36), Ryan Hannan (43), Lucas Klein and Paul Unterreiner (44) rounded out Notre Dame's scoring.

Jackson was led by Peyton Sims who carded a 36. Sims was followed by Kyle Perry (39), Matt Litzelfelner (41) and Nathan Brown (43).

Everett Gee and Sam Coppage both shot 43s to lead New Madrid.

SWIMMING

Parkway South Invitational

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Cape Central made its first state cut of the year in a relay event, finishing the 400 freestyle relay in 4:04.52 at the 12-team meet.

The team consisted of Katie Maginel, Terra Herzberger, Mary Beth Owen and Casey Brennan.

Mary Beth Owen took fourth in the 500 freestyle and made her second state cut of the year with a time of 5:18.60.

The meet will continue today.

JV BASEBALL

Notre Dame 9, Kelly 0

Notre Dame freshman Lee Essner pitched a seven-inning no-hitter and struck out 17 as the Bulldogs beat Kelly.

Essner, who has pitched in spots on the varsity squad, walked one and hit a batter and faced three over the minimum.

Tony Longman had two hits as Notre Dame improved to 8-6.
