Chaffee High School's best start to a football season since 1969 has earned the Red Devils statewide recognition.

The Red Devils are ranked 10th in Class 1 according to the poll released Monday. Voting is done by a 15-member panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.

Chaffee is 5-0 for the first time since the 1969 squad began the season 6-0.

And the Red Devils have not just been beating opponents, they've been mauling them. Chaffee has outscored the opposition 225-72 and its closest margin of victory is 17 points.

Chaffee will be favored to make it 6-0 Friday night when the Red Devils visit East Prairie.
