Central's Jackson sets two school records in Tigers' win

The Central girls track and field team continued to dominate the relay events, sweeping all four relays at the Poplar Bluff Invitational on Friday en route to the team title.

The Tigers finished with 206 points, well ahead of Jackson's 170 1/2.

Central recently won five of six relay events at the Cape Relays and earlier this year won all four relays at the Jackson Invitational.

Individually, Nicole Jackson won the 100 and 200, both in school-record times.

Jackson topped Jackson sprinter Rachel Kahle in the 100 with a time of 11.8 seconds, a time which would have topped the Class 4 state champion last year by more than a tenth of a second. Kahle finished in 12.22 seconds.

Jackson won the 200 in 24.7, while Kahle was second in 25.34.

Other winners for Central included Tiffany Mead in the 400, Emma Porter in the pole vault, Brittany Moreland in the 1,600, Brianna Egbuka in the shot put and Dani Gross in the long jump.

For Jackson, Heather Hileman won both hurdle events and the high jump. Kahle won the triple jump, and Katelynn James added a win in the discus.

SEMO South meet

Chaffee's girls track and field team brought home its first ever SEMO South conference title Friday with a commanding 40-point advantage over the second-place squad at the seven-team event held at East Prairie.

The Red Devils finished with 166 points, followed by Hayti with 126. Kelly was third with 72, Scott City was fourth with 70 and Oran finished sixth with 27.

Nikole Johnson led Chaffee with a first-place finish in the 400, and she was part of the winning 1,600 and 3,200 relay teams. Johnson also ran on the second-place 800 relay team.

Rachel Hendrix was also a member of both the 1,600 and 3,200 relay teams and finished second in the 400.

Festus Invitational

Brittney Castleberry had four top-five finishes to lead Perryville at the Festus Invitational.

The Pirates finished seventh with 51.5. points. Festus won the 17-team event with 110.5 points.

Castleberry was second in the 100-meter dash and 300 hurdles, fourth in the 100 hurdles and fifth in the 200.

BOYS Poplar Bluff Invitational

Tyler Terry won both the triple jump and long jump to lead Central to a third-place finish at the Poplar Bluff Invitational.

Matt Willingham was Central's only other individual champion with a win in the pole vault. Willingham had a vault of 15 feet, which would have won the state meet in Class 4 last year. Central also won the 400 relay.

Perryville finished sixth in the event and had a win in the 1,600 relay.

Jackson finished behind the Pirates in seventh. Greg Gibson and Alex Ressel each had third-place finishes for the Indians.

Walker Rice and Geoff Mirly had individual wins for Chaffee at the SEMO South Conference Meet.

The Red Devils finished third with 117 points. Malden easily won with 166 points, and Hayti edged the Red Devils with 118. Scott City was fourth with 77, followed by Kelly with 68. Oran rounded out the seven-team field with 12 points.

Rice won the shot put, and Mirly won the triple jump.

Festus Invitational

Montana Giesler led a small group of Perryville athletes at the Festus Invitational with a fourth-place finish in the 3,200 in 10:38.
