Central matched its best round of golf this season, taking advantage of calm winds to shoot a 148 to win a three-team meet at Cape Country Club on Thursday.

Central had all four scorers shoot below 40 on the par-35 golf course.

"The golf course was in great shape and we played the ball down," Central coach Dick Wadlington said.

Todd Obergoenner matched his season average with a 36, and Zach Kluesner shot his top round of golf with a 36. Ty Gramling added a 37 and Tyson Seabaugh shot a 39.

Jackson fell off after a sizzling 147 on Wednesday in a win against Ste. Genevieve, shooting a 164. Josh Wheeler shot a 39 to lead Jackson. Chase Walker and Eric Fraley each shot 41, and Blake McDowell and Gabe Sauer each carded a 43.

Central 1, Perryville 0

The Central girls soccer team scored in the first minute of the game and made it hold up for the duration in a 1-0 home victory against Perryville.

The victory marked the third time Central (9-5) shut out the Pirates this season and was the sixth shutout posted by goalkeeper Chelsea Burns. The Tigers have outscored Perryville 6-0 in the three wins.

Lauren Thompson scored the game's only goal when she deposited a pass from teammate Meghan Orr in the opening minute.

Chastity Marr made 17 saves in goal for Perryville (8-7).

Jackson 9, Poplar Bluff 0

Jackson rolled over visiting Poplar Bluff on the Indians' senior night.

"It was some of the most unselfish soccer I've seen the girls play all year," Jackson coach Zack Walton said. "They played very well tonight."

The Indians (10-3-1), who led 6-0 at halftime, were led by Molly Hartmann's three goals and three assists. Ashley Bartels scored twice, while Emily Curtis, Lucy Hartmann, Shay Priester and Stacey Stroer had a goal apiece. Hannah Kohm had two assists. Liz Nussbaum, Bartels and Curtis each had one. Kylie Werner recorded the shutout.

Jackson's JV won 8-0 behind two goals from both Amanda Brown and Erin Curtis.

OTHER EVENTS

The Central Junior High girls track and field team took home medals from every event at the Sikeston Relays, including four first-place finishes. Nadia Cox set the school's long jump record at 16 feet, 4 inches.Central Junior High results
