Central's volleyball team got its season off to a strong start Monday night, overcoming a loss in the first game to defeat host Bloomfield 26-28, 25-17, 26-24.
Wendi Zickfield had three blocks and four kills for the Tigers, while Melissa Espinoza had seven kills and Kyla Valleroy added 14 assists.
Central's junior varsity won 23-25, 25-13, 26-24.

Notre Dame dropped its season opener at home, but coach Tara Stroup was hardly discouraged.
"We lost 10 seniors (from last year's team that went 29-4-3) and we're really young, so I was apprehensive," Stroup said. "But we played really well against one of the tougher teams we're going to face. We have a lot of potential."
Kaitlyn Scheeter, the Bulldogs' only returning starter and one of just three seniors, had five kills and eight digs. Senior Allison Toole added 10 digs, while junior Meridith Medlin contributed five kills.
Notre Dame's JV also lost a tight match 18-25, 25-21, 25-23, but the Bulldogs' freshmen prevailed 25-22, 25-17.

Scott City swept Advance on the road in the season opener for both teams.
Brittany Licare led the Rams with 34 digs, and Kacie Ritter and Kelley Hicks added four kills each. Linsdsey Amick contributed four assists.
Stephania Jordan had 12 digs, seven kills and six assists for the Hornets. Angela Broshuis had 17 assists and six kills, and Tori Gilland added six kills.
Scott City's JV won 25-23, 25-17.

Notre Dame 14, Park Hills 0, 5 innings
Notre Dame continued its early-season rampage by routing visiting Park Hills Central 14-0 in five innings. The Bulldogs (4-0) have outscored the opposition 43-0 so far.
Miranda Schlosser pitched all five innings, allowing three hits. She struck out nine and walked one.
Schlosser also had three of the Bulldogs' 16 hits, while Heather Menz added three hits. Cortney Ostendorf, Kristain Burger and Paris Burger all contributed two hits.

Chaffee's Whitney Horrell fired a five-inning no-hitter and the Red Devils romped on the road.
Horrell struck out three and walked, and she added three RBIs at the plate.
Mindy Hendrix led Chaffee's offense with three hits, including a home run, and four RBIs. Olivia Coomer added two hits for the Devils (4-1).

Delta was swept in a doubleheader on the road to open its season. The Bobcats managed just two hits over the two five-inning games.
In the opener, Kaci Menz singled in the third inning for Delta's lone hit. Kayla Seabaugh struck out two and walked six to suffer the loss on the mound.
Delta's pitching continued to struggle in the second game as Seabaugh and Menz combined to walk 11 batters and throw several wild pitches. Only three of Poplar Bluff's runs were earned.
Delta's only hit was Kacie Seabaugh's RBI triple in the fourth inning.

Using a combination of varsity and JV players, Notre Dame dominated visiting Kennett as Ty Williams scored three goals.
Richard Marquart and Brenton Ruopp each added two goals, and Nick Wren also scored for the Bulldogs (1-0).
John Unterreiner assisted twice, and Marquart, J.P. Thompson, Josh Robert, Kyle Gartland and Brett Heischmidt each had an assist.
Notre Dame's JV won 10-0 behind three goals from Robert.
