Central tennis turns back Dexter to remain perfect

The Central girls tennis team remained unbeaten in dual matches by posting a 6-3 victory against Dexter.

The Tigers (7-0) won all but one singles match. Liz LaFoe and Monica Toole, who both won singles matches, teamed up for Central's lone doubles victory.

BOYS SOCCER Notre Dame 3, Farmington 1

Bryce Willen put Notre Dame on top for good midway through the first half in a home victory.

Willen and Mark Unterreiner each had a goal and an assist in the victory. Unterreiner scored the first goal on an assist from Jason Delgado and later assisted on Willen's tiebreaking goal.

Chris Meyer scored the Bulldogs' lone goal of the second half with an assist from Willen.

"We played really well tonight," said Notre Dame coach Brad Wittenborn. "We could' ve finished off some our offensive chances better, but we are heading in the right direction."

The Bulldogs (4-3) will face Kentucky teams Marshall County and Murray at home on Saturday.

SOFTBALL Notre Dame 3, Jackson 0

Kristain Burger pitched around two Notre Dame errors to notch her fifth win of the season. Burger also helped herself at the plate by hitting a home run.

Jackson pitcher Darla Mangles allowed only two earned runs in seven innings. However, Notre Dame (13-1) dropped Jackson to 3-11 on the season.

Kelly 14, East Prairie 2

Kelly belted 11 hits and took advantage of seven East Prairie miscues to earn their 10th win.

Kelly Essner went 2-for-4 for the Hawks (10-2), banging out a triple and a home run while driving in five runs in the five-inning rout. Meghan Tetley earned her first win, pitching three innings and striking out one.

Advance (6-3-1) swept Leopold at home. Angela Broshois had eight kills, Kaci Cooper had three blocks, Stephania Jordan added six digs and Kacie Ritter contributed 10 assists.

Meadow Heights (5-6-1) won a close match at home. Leading the Panthers were Julie Hahs with five kills and five aces, Chasity Wilfong with six kills and six aces and Erica Wilfong with five aces. For Saxony, Nicole Petzoldt had three kills and four blocks.

Bell City was led to a road victory by Megan Slagley, who had two aces and three digs, and Rachel Spear, who had 11 assists.

Jackson escaped with a win at Woodland in three sets. Rebecca Martin had 11 kills, Natalie Koeper had nine digs and Roxie Hudack added 18 assists for Jackson (5-2-2).

Crystal City 25-25 Perryvillle 21-21

Perryville fell to 1-1 in conference play with a two-game loss.

Stacey Landholt had four kills and two blocks to lead Perryville. Jodie Amschler had three kills. Joceyln Moll had three blocks.

Scott City improved to 12-4 with a win on the road. Kacie Cartwight had six kills and four aces, Jenny Glency and Ashton Phillips had four kills and Lindsey Amick added 10 assists.

Other sports

The Central junior high football team fell 20-18 at Farmington in its opener despite two long touchdown passes from Jordan Sheets to Andrew Ratliff.
