Megan McDonald struck out 14 batters and had a run-scoring double to lead Central's softball team to a 4-0 shutout of rival Jackson Monday at Central.

McDonald allowed only two hits and walked three batters as the Tigers improved to 5-4.

"Megan throws well," Central coach Amy Blattel said. "She's a gamer. She wants the big games."

The Tigers took the early lead with a run in bottom of the first inning. Central added a run in the third and two more in the fourth.

Central had six different players with one hit. Jamie Dement was 1-for-1 with three stolen bases.

The Tigers will face district foes Sikeston and Poplar Bluff today and Wednesday before hosting Notre Dame Thursday.

VOLLEYBALL

Notre Dame 20-25-25, Farmington 25-21-22

Notre Dame got 11 kills from Emily Buehrle and rallied to win in three games on the road.

Sommer McCauley added seven kills, 12 assists and five digs for Notre Dame (4-1-1). Laura Browne, Valaree Rutherford and Kelsey Scheeter had five kills apiece. Allison Essner added 12 assists, Kristen Boos had nine digs and Browne had nine blocks.

The Bulldogs JV and freshman teams both lost.

Jackson 25-15-25, Dexter 11-25-23

Jackson overcame a rocky second game to win at Dexter.

Shay Priester and Molly Hartmann had five blocks apiece and Malerie Goodman contributed five kills for the Indians (2-0). Linden Hahs added nine digs and 12 service points for Jackson.

Jackson's JV (3-1) won 25-22, 20-25, 25-19.

Scott City 25-25, Bloomfield 21-14

Ashton Phillips led the Rams (3-0) with five kills in a two-game win over visiting Bloomfield.

Kacie Cartwright added four kills for Scott City and Amanda Raines had nine assists and four aces.

The Rams' JV lost 25-15, 23-25, 15-9.

Life Christian 24-25-25, Eagle Ridge 26-16-20

Ashley Hughes' four aces and 31 assists weren't enough for Eagle Ridge, with lost in three games at home.

Rachel Carbaugh had three aces and seven kills while Autumn Crowden added five kills for the Eagles (7-3).

Eagle Ridge's JV lost 25-14, 20-25, 25-18.

St. Vincent 25-25, Ste. Genevieve 19-20

St. Vincent won a two-game match on the road.

The Squaws also captured JV and freshmen matches.

Zalma 25-25, Saxony Lutheran 7-18

Saxony Lutheran's JV lost to Zalma in two games.

Stacey Manche led the first-year program with nine service points.

GIRLS' TENNIS

Central 9, Caruthersville 0

Central (2-0) lost only nine games total in a sweep of host Caruthersville.

Liz LaFoe, Erika Foley, Brett Ford, Dani Gross, Michaelyn Burns and Merritt Gerlach were Central's singles winners. The doubles teams of Foley-Ford, LaFoe-Gross and Burns-Gerlach also won.
