Central qualified two wrestlers for this week's state meet during the Class 2 sectional meet Saturday in Farmington, Mo.
Trever Duncan, a district winner, placed second to qualify for the second straight year. Duncan, a 160-pound senior, went 2-1 on the day, losing 8-6 in double overtime to Farmington's Darrin Johnson. Duncan's record is 41-3.
Central's 152-pounder Corey Huskey also qualified with a fourth-place finish. Huskey went 2-2 to improve his record to 27-17.
Brandon Hinkle (145) and Jason Poole (215) did not qualify. Hinkle went 0-2 and finished with a 23-20 record. Poole was 1-2 and ended 20-23 overall.
"The kids wrestled with heart, and I was glad to see them make it this far," Central coach Jason Crowell said. "Two of them still have something to prove next weekend."
Jackson's sectional results were not available.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Notre Dame 64, St. Louis Notre Dame 35
The hottest girls basketball team in Southeast Missouri continued to sizzle as Notre Dame (15-7) reeled off its 10th straight win.
Ashley Millham led 10 Bulldogs in the scoring column with 16 points. Sierra Ellis added 11 points and Sommer McCauley had 10.
The Bulldogs grabbed a 16-7 lead in the first quarter and took a 38-16 lead into halftime.
Parkway South 66, Jackson 55
Jessica Koeper scored a career-high 17 points but it wasn't enough to help Jackson overcome turnover and foul problems on the road.
Koeper fell victim to the foul trouble, getting disqualified along with season-leading scorer Jenna Leet and Whitney Werner, who both finished with 13 points. Jackson (15-8) committed 23 turnovers.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Notre Dame 60, MICDS 45
Notre Dame used 22 points from senior Travis Siebert to roll off its sixth consecutive victory, defeating Mary Institute-Country Day School (MICDS) at home.
Wayne Essner added 18 points for Notre Dame (18-6).
The Bulldogs built a 10-point lead by the close of the first quarter and led 29-17 by halftime.
