Central's boys tennis team used a forfeit in both singles and doubles when a Dexter player didn't show up to defeat the host Bearcats 5-4 Wednesday and even its dual-match record at 3-3.
After losing the first three singles matches, the Tigers rallied. P.D. Stuart and Adam Baron both won in singles, then the Tigers swept the doubles as the teams of Baron-Tyler Roeger, Heath Orr-Will Ramsey and Stuart- Kevin Rohatgi.
BASEBALL
Jackson 9, Fredericktown 8
Jackson went up 7-0 and then withstood a steady Fredericktown rally to win on the road.
Jason Owen started for the Indians (3-3), but a bout of wildness limited his outing to 2 1/3 innings. Owen did not allow a hit, but walked four and hit two batters.
After Owen came out in the third with the bases loaded and one run in, Fredericktown put four more runs on the board with a D.J. Hinkle grand slam. Hinkle hit another two-run homer in the fifth to cut the Indians' lead to 8-7. Jackson came back with an unearned run in the sixth to push the lead to two, a run that would prove key for Jackson.
After holding Fredericktown scoreless in the sixth, Jackson reliever Brandon Stearns proceeded to allow the first four Fredericktown batters to reach base in the seventh. With the bases loaded and no outs, Stearns struck out the next three batters to preserve the win.
Jason Meystedt led the Indians with three hits. Tyler Profilet and Tyler Beussink had two hits and two RBIs apiece. Hinkle led Fredericktown with seven RBIs.
Chaffee 8, Delta 2
Brent Thomason struck out 10 during a complete-game three-hitter as Chaffee (4-4) won on the road.
Zac Horman doubled twice and went 3-for-3 to lead Chaffee's 11-hit attack.
GIRLS SOCCER
St. Vincent 6, Sikeston 0
St. Vincent's defense allowed only three shots on goal in a road shutout.
The Squaws (5-3) used six different goal-scorers to roll. Theresa Mattingly, Valerie Richardet, Jessica Behrle, Chelsey Brown, Joy Donze and Beth Hennemann all scored for St. Vincent. Amanda Carron, Caitlin Hoeh, Rachel Hadler, Whitney Guth and Danielle Schremp each had an assist. Michelle Herzog made three saves for the shutout.
