Central's girls' tennis team finished up an impressive regular season and tuned up for today's district tournament by beating visiting Sikeston 8-1 Monday. Central's girls' tennis team finished up an impressive regular season and tuned up for today's district tournament by beating visiting Sikeston 8-1 Monday.

The Tigers wound up with a 10-2 record in dual matches.

"I'm really pleased with the season," Central coach Bud Craven said. "I thought we'd have a winning record, but I didn't expect this. And we've only got two seniors on the varsity, so we'll have some good girls coming back."

Central will compete in today's Class 2A, District 1 Tournament at Forest Park in St. Louis. The top two teams advance to sectional play while the top two finishes in singles and doubles qualify for the state meet.

Central's JV finished off an 11-0 dual-match season by blanking Sikeston 9-0 Monday.

VOLLEYBALL

Notre Dame 15-11-15 Perryville 9-15-6

Perryville (6-15-3) hung tough at home but fell in three games to powerhouse Notre Dame (26-4-1).

The Pirates received 13 service points, including four aces, and 11 assists from Lisa Pecaut. Kaci Schremp had five kills, four digs and seven blocks; Casey Moll added four kills and four digs; and Melissa Crannick served eight points.

Notre Dame's JV and freshmen teams both won in straight games.

Leopold 15-15 Oak Ridge 6-5

Leopold (20-2-1) cruised to victory over host Oak Ridge (4-11-1).

Holly Jansen led the way in kills with 10, followed by Tasha Thiele with six and Courtney Wesbecher with five. Toni Eftink had six digs and Wendy VandeVen recorded 19 assists.

Leopold's JV (16-1-2) prevailed 15-13, 15-8.

Last Friday, Leopold's JV hosted a tournament and won, with Meadow Heights second.

Advance 15-15 Woodland 7-8

Top-seeded Advance (17-5-1) rolled past host Woodland in the opening round of the Stoddard County Conference Tournament.

Dana Williams led the Hornets with 10 kills, seven digs and three service aces. Alicia Broshuis had eight assists.

Advance's JV also beat Woodland 15-6, 15-11 in a first-round match.

Zalma 2-15-16 Greenville 15-6-14

Zalma (10-9-3) struggled in the first game but rallied to pick up a home victory.

Brittany Shelby had five kills and Melissa Fish added three. Cindy Hovis added 18 digs and Kacy Burchett recorded 36 assists.

Zalma's JV won 12-15, 15-8, 15-3.--From staff reports
