JACKSON -- Cape Girardeau Central and Jackson have waged some thrilling high school soccer games this season and Tuesday was no exception.

The Lady Tigers fell behind 1-0 early in the second half but they rallied to post a 2-1 victory as they improved their record to 18-1-1. Jackson fell to 13-5-1.

"It was a very physical game," said Central coach Tom Doyle. "Both teams played hard. Both teams know each other so well."

After a scoreless halftime tie, Jackson went ahead in the opening minute of the second half as Lacie Hodo scored, with an assist from Kinsey Turley.

But Lori Bittle scored a short time later, with an assist from Amanda Hiler, as Central pulled into a 1-1 tie. Amber Voerg scored the game-winner at the 17-minute mark, with Kim Aslinger assisting.

"It was a real even game," said Jackson coach Bonnie Knowlan. "There was good defensive play by both teams. I was real pleased with the way we played."

Central also won the junior varsity game 2-0 as the JV Lady Tigers improved to 9-0-1. Trisha Klipfel and Cameron Bennett scored the goals while Jessica McDonald earned her seventh shutout.

Both teams are back in action Thursday, Central at De Soto and Jackson at Notre Dame.

Notre Dame 4, St. Vincent 0

PERRYVILLE -- Notre Dame matched its previous season-high win total with a shutout.

The Lady Bulldogs, 10-10-1, got two goals from Emily Worley. Cyndi Cox and Jill Edwards also scored, with Edwards getting two assists. Laura Huber added an assist.

Perryville 1, Seckman 1

ARNOLD -- Amanda Schumer netted the lone goal of the second half as Perryville battled to a draw.

Seckman had taken the lead two minutes into the game, but Schumer knotted the score early in the second half. The Lady Pirates are now 13-3-2.

In JV action, Amy Garris netted three goals as Perryville rolled 5-1.

BASEBALL

Chaffee 5, South Pemiscot 2

CHAFFEE -- Chaffee picked up a big win by knocking off highly-regarded South Pemiscot.

The Red Devils improved to 13-3 as Matt Stroup pitched all seven innings. He allowed seven hits and one earned run while striking out 10 and walking three.

"Matt threw well. He had 'em off balance all day," said Chaffee coach Bruce Qualls. "It was a big win for us. This is the time of the year you like to be playing well."

Stroup also had two of Chaffee's six hits, including an RBI double. Dusty Leggett and Jason Harrell also drove in runs.

Chaffee will visit Oran Friday with the Scott-Mississippi Conference title on the line. Oran is currently undefeated in league play while Chaffee and Kelly both have one loss.

Oak Ridge 6, Advance 5

OAK RIDGE -- Oak Ridge notched an impressive victory despite another home run by Advance slugger Chris Wallace.

The Blue Jays (6-4) got strong pitching from Darren Hahs, who allowed seven hits and four earned runs. He fanned six and walked three.

Hahs, Beau Morrison and Brad Ruppel all had two hits while Eric Hobeck stole three bases.

Wallace, who had two hits, was the losing hurler. He allowed eight hits and fanned 11. Advance is 9-7.

Leopold 5, Scott Central 2

LEOPOLD -- Leopold got a home run from Jason Vandeven as the Wildcats improved to 6-5.

Scott Vangennip pitched four innings for the win and Donnie Landewee hurled three innings for the save as they combined on a three-hitter.

GOLF

Fredericktown 158, Notre Dame 161

FREDERICKTOWN -- Notre Dame placed second in a triangular match that also included Farmington, which shot a 166.

Fredericktown's Luke McKinnis was the medalist with a 1-under-par 35.

Notre Dame, which shot its best score of the season, was led by Nick Martin at 38. Other scores for the Bulldogs were Lucas Klein 39, Tim Buerck 42 and Derek Welter 42.

Also, during Monday's Farmington Tournament, Notre Dame placed sixth out of 15 teams in its flight. Buerck shot an 80 to finish fourth overall. Martin's 84 placed him seventh

The Bulldogs will host the 10-team Class 2A, District 1 Tournament Monday at Bent Creek Golf Course.

TRACK & FIELD

Jackson splits dual

POPLAR BLUFF -- Jackson split a dual meet with Poplar Bluff, the girls winning 89-69 and the boys losing 100-44.

The Lady Indians won all four relays along with six other events.

The Indians won four events, with Blake Popp a double individual winner in the 800 and 1,600 runs.

Results are in `Scoreboard' on Page 2B.
