CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLERS PIN 57-11 ROUT ON DEXTER 'CATS

DEXTER -- Cape Central High wrestling coach Larry Clemens has been pleasantly surprised by the performance of his Tigers so far this season.

"I really am surprised at the job this young squad has been doing," said Clemens following a 57-11 rout of host Dexter Thursday night that moved the Tigers' dual record to 4-2. "We're wrestling pretty well right now. They've really impressed me."

Numerous quick pins was the story for Central Thursday.

The Tigers recorded falls in seven matches, including 125-pounder Josh Crowell's pin in just 46 seconds.

Also turning in quick pins were 135-pounder Shane Hohler (1:20), 140-pounder John Kight (1:39), 145-pounder Jason Price (1:29) and 189-pounder Marcus Wade (1:31).

Not far behind in the fall department were 103-pounder Jason Metheny (4:38) and 119-pounder Brent Felker (2:59).

Clint Tracy recorded a 13-6 decision at 160 pounds while 171-pounder Brandon Nielson and heavyweight Greg Emmons each received forfeit victories.

"A lot of our kids took care of business in a hurry," Clemens said. "We'd been off since Jan. 3 so we had to get back in the groove real quick."

Central's junior varsity won 42-30 behind victories from Shawn McClain, Matt Kingree, Luke Dry, Jason Strickland and Buddy Gunn.

The Tigers will be right back in action Saturday during the Jackson Tournament. Seven teams will compete. Others entered in addition to Jackson and Central are Poplar Bluff, Webster Groves, Mehlville, Clayton and Millington, Tenn.

"That's going to be an excellent tournament," said Clemens.

Action at in the tourney is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
