Cape Girardeau Central's golf team saved its best for its last dual meet of the season as it beat New Madrid County Central handily Thursday at Cape Girardeau Country Club.

The Tigers' four-man team combined for a nine-over-par 149. New Madrid shot 162. Central coach Dick Wadlington said that Thursday's score was the best a Central team has totaled "in several years."

The Tigers were led by Dan Groesbeck's 36. Bryan Welker shot 37 and Dane McLaird and Mike Oslund both shot 38.

New Madrid was led by Nick Andrews' 37.

Central will participate in the Class 4A district tourament at Eagle Lake Country Club in Farmington on Tuesday.

Jackson suffers first loss

JACKSON -- In its final meet of the season, a triangular at Bent Creek Golf Course against Notre Dame and Poplar Bluff Thursday, Jackson suffered its only loss of the season.

Poplar Bluff shot 161 to win. Jackson shot 164 and Notre Dame 175.

For Jackson, Gabe Estes shot 38, John Litzelfelner 41, Travis Reiminger 42 and Tyler Luebbers and Matt Wilson both shot 43.

Motre Dame's Dan Buerck tied the best score of the day with a 37. Jonathan LeGrand shot 41, Matt Howard 45 and Chris Koepper 52.

Jackson will participate in the Class 4A district tournament in Farmington on Tuesday.

Girls soccer

Jackson 3, Notre Dame 1

Jackson netted two second-half goals to break a 1-1 deadlock to defeat Notre Dame Thursday at Shawnee Soccer Park.

After Jackson took a 1-0 lead, Notre Dame's Jill Edwards knotted the score midway through the first half.

Notre Dame fell to 8-8-1 on the season. The Lady Bulldogs will return to action Monday when West Plains visits.
