Central football rallies to beat Chaminade in overtime

The Central football team rallied from a double-digit halftime deficit for the second straight week.

Central, trailing 21-7 at the break, forced overtime with a late touchdown and went on to beat visiting Chaminade 28-21.

The Tigers, who the previous week won 29-17 at Sikeston after trailing 17-6 at halftime, improved to 4-4 with their third straight victory. Chaminade is also 4-4.

Central, trailing Chaminade 21-14, faced third-and-15 from inside its 1-yard line in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter.

The Tigers escaped that predicament and drove for the tying score with 1:28 left.

Central scored on the first overtime possession on a 7-yard run by senior Mikey Jones.

Senior Jacob Boerboom intercepted a pass on Chaminade's possession to seal the victory.

Sophomore Al Young scored three touchdowns for Central, two rushing and one receiving.

Central senior quarterback Dennis Vinson completed 9 of 18 passes for 221 yards.
