Sarah Ford and Lindsey Pingel didn't miss a beat.
The Central doubles pair cruised through the first day of the district tennis tournament Thursday, earning a berth in today's semifinals. Ford and Pingel have won the district title and earned trips to the state tournament the last two years.
The Central team enjoyed a first-round bye, then took care of Poplar Bluff's Jessica Gray and Alli Poteet, 6-0, 6-0. In the third round, Ford and Pingel defeated Parkway South's Lisa McCarthy and Stephanie Sandler, 6-1, 6-1.
Central's doubles team of Brooke Morris and Sami Gross went 2-1 on the day. Morris and Gross defeated Cor Jesu's Kaitlyn Smyth and Erin Dunn, 6-2, 6-2, then knocked off Jackson's Alison Keiper and Maura Neader, 6-1, 6-3. But the Central team fell to Parkway South's Danielle Poe and Stephanie Krieger, 6-0, 6-1.
In singles matches, Central's Christen Edmonds lost to Parkway South's Emily Richardson, 6-2, 6-0, after a first-round bye.
The Tigers' Kristi Lazarova defeated Cor Jesu's Sarah Schaefer, 6-1, 6-0, then lost to Jackson's Chelsea Jones, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Kelsey Barlow had all 25 service points in the opening game, including nine aces, as New Salem improved to 19-0.

Maddy Hatchings recorded six kills and four blocks to help lead Leopold (17-3) to a sweep at home.
Cassie Jansen added five kills, and Cassie Seiler had 14 assists and five digs. Desire Arnzen led the defense with eight digs.
Chelsea Olson led the Indians with 16 assists, eight digs and two blocks. Jill Rushin added four kills and three aces.
Katelynn James had six kills for Jackson (11-7-1).

Taylor Sanders led the Bulldogs (8-8-2) with five kills, Shannon Brennan and Meghan Dohogne each had three kills, while Paige Schumer had six assists.

Makenzie Schirmer recorded four kills and two blocks to lead the Pirates (14-2) to the win.

Lauren Reinagel threw her third consecutive no-hitter as top-seed Notre Dame improved to 23-0 with a 14-0 victory in five innings in the opening round of the Class 3 District 2 tournament.
Reinagel (22-0) struck out 10 and walked four.
"She's throwing tremendously well right now," Notre Dame coach Jeff Graviett said.
Notre Dame will play No. 5 Kennett in a semifinal today.
Nikki Chambers and Brooke Glastetter each had home runs. Erika Reinagel and Lauren Reinagel both went 3-for-3, while Britney Schott and Heather Menz went 2-for-3.

Junior pitcher Jessica Tuschhoff allowed a first-inning run, but blanked Hillsboro the remaining six innings as Jackson rallied for a 2-1 victory and reached the Class 4 District 1 championship game.
Tuschhoff struck out three, walked three and allowed four hits.
Hanah Bolen tied the game in the fifth with an RBI double, and Maggie Baugh plated the winning run with an RBI single in the sixth. Baugh and Alisha Craft both went 2-for-3 in Jackson's eight-hit attack.

The Bobcats weren't afraid to take one for the team in a 9-3 victory over Van Buren in a Class 1 District 1 first-round game.
Delta had five batters get hit with pitches and two pitchers combined for a no-hitter.
Kendra Burnett went 4 2/3 innings, striking out 10 but walking nine. Taylor Keys came on and struck out one in 1 1/3 innings to close out the no-hitter.
The Bobcats face Oran today in a district semifinal.

The Rams face Crystal City in a semifinal today.

BOYS SWIMMINGChaminade meet
Central and Notre Dame finished third and fourth, respectively, at a four-team meet at Chaminade in St. Louis. Chaminade won with 511 points, followed by DeSmet (315), Central (262) and Notre Dame (242).
Central finished first in four events. Sam Gramling (100 freestyle), Peyton Wagner (100 breaststroke) and Caleb Coots (100 butterfly) all won individual events and were on the first-place 200 freestyle relay with Matt Holmes. Coots and Wagner also made state qualifying cuts in the 200 freestyle, finishing second and third, respectively, in the event.
Notre Dame's Logan Bollinger (100 butterfly, 100 backstroke) placed second in two individual events and was part of the 400 freestyle relay team that also placed second.

The Saxony Lutheran boys team claimed its own meet, as its top five finishers placed in the top 15 in the seven-team event.
The Crusaders finished with 48 points, well ahead of runner-up Woodland (70).
Woodland won the girls competition, which featured just two full teams.
Cody Kern of Kelly won the boys race in 18 minutes, 2 seconds, while Tara Johnson of Kelly won the girls race in 21:35.
