Jeffrey Hardin scored twice in the span of 74 seconds late in the first half then completed his hat trick in the 44th minute as the Poplar Bluff Mules knocked out Cape Central 4-0 Tuesday in the MSHSAA Class 3 District 1 semifinal.
Adam Vincent added a goal in the 55th minute for the top-seeded Mules.
Central had several chances off throw-ins in the first half, none bigger than in the final minute, but Clayton Mitchell headed the ball off the goal line. Mitchell also stopped a shot in the second half by Central's Danny Cruz to help keeper Jose Reyes preserve the shutout.
The Tigers (4-18) came up empty on five corner attempts.
Reyes made six saves while Central keeper Spencer Kidd stopped eight shots.
