The Central tennis team spent a long day in St. Louis on Saturday, falling to host Lafayette 5-4 in a Class 2 sectional match that lasted more than four hours.

After splitting singles, Lafayette won two out of three doubles matches, ending the match with a win at No. 2.

The loss meant the end of the 2004 campaign for the Tigers, who went 14-0 in dual matches in the regular season.

Dani Gross and Brett Ford will play doubles this week in the state tournament, which begins Friday in Springfield, Mo.
