Toby Carrig has been named sports editor of the Southeast Missourian newspaper.

Carrig, 36, previously was the managing editor of the Jefferson County edition of the St. Louis Suburban Journals. He has been with the Suburban Journals for 15 years, having served as managing editor and sports editor.

He also previously worked as the sports editor of the Beaumont Enterprise in Beaumont, Texas.

Carrig's wife, Patty, is employed by AmerenUE in St. Louis. They have a 5-year-old daughter, Christina.

A native of upstate New York, Carrig moved to Missouri in 1988 to work for the Daily News-Democrat in Festus.

As sports editor, Carrig replaces Jamie Hall, who has moved to Florida.
