Cardinals right fielder Rick Ankiel threw out a runner with a perfect throw to third base in the eighth. The former pitching phenom had a chance to be the hitting hero in the ninth but grounded back to the mound with the potential winning run on third.

He will stay in Jupiter awaiting a minor league assignment when the Cardinals leave town. He needs to clear waivers this weekend to remain with St. Louis.

St. Louis reliever Bill Pulsipher gave up two hits in a scoreless inning and has not allowed a run in 11 innings this spring.
