KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Chris Carpenter picked up in spring training where he left off last season.

Carpenter, who won 21 games and the NL Cy Young Award in 2005, has yet to allow a run in the exhibition season, pitching four more scoreless innings as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Atlanta Braves 9-0 Monday.

Scott Spiezio and Chris Duncan homered for the Cardinals, who got four runs and eight hits in four innings against starter John Thomson.

Carpenter retired his first 10 hitters, extending his spring training scoreless streak to 11 innings. He allowed two hits, walked one and struck out three.

Three relievers finished off the six-hit shutout.
