ST. LOUIS -- The Cardinals made several moves involving pitchers Saturday to make room for newly acquired Sterling Hitchcock and Mike DeJean, and injured starter Matt Morris.
Morris, on the disabled list with a broken finger and a sprained ankle, was activated Saturday.
To make room on the roster, the Cardinals designated right-handed reliever Esteban Yan for assignment, placed right-hander Jimmy Journell on the disabled list, and optioned left-hander Jason Pearson to Triple-A Memphis.
Yan was 2-0 with a 6.02 ERA in 39 appearances. Journell, out because of a sprained shoulder, had no record with a 3.18 ERA in three appearances. Pearson worked only one inning for the Cardinals in two appearances and had no record with an ERA of 63.00.
