The Plaza Tire Capahas lost a late lead Tuesday night and saw their eight-game winning streak come to an end.
Host Fairview Heights, Ill., scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat the Capahas 7-5.
Plaza Tire fell to 22-5 by losing for just the second time in its past 19 games. The Capahas swung wood bats, as is their custom, while Fairview Heights used aluminum.
Josh Eftink led Plaza Tire's 11-hit attack by going 4-for-5. Jerry Hodges and Zach Johnson both added two hits for the Capahas.
Ryan Poole started for the Capahas and was impressive, allowing two earned runs and seven hits over seven innings. He struck out eight and walked one.
Poole left the game with a 5-4 lead.
"He did a good job," Plaza Tire manager Jess Bolen said.
Cameron Heath suffered the loss. He came on to start the eighth inning and allowed three hits while recording one out.
A wild pitch by Heath allowed the tying run to score. Josh Parham relieved Heath and an error brought home two unearned runs that were charged to Heath.
Jeff Bloomberg had three of Fairview Heights' 10 hits. Frank Bayers homered for the host squad.
The Capahas return to action Friday with a 7:30 p.m. home game against Evansville, Ind.
