MURPHYSBORO, Ill. -- Cape Girardeau's McDowell Capahas overcame an injury to third baseman Ryan Murphy in mauling Murphysboro 18-1 in seven innings.

Murphy left the game in the fifth inning after pulling a stomach muscle during his at-bat. Despite the loss, the Capahas improved to 9-4 by outhitting Murpysboro 20-3.

Tommy Bolen, Darrick Smith and George White all had four hits to lead the Capahas. Bolen had a home run and four RBIs, while Smith and White batted in three runs each.

Mike Miller had two hits, one a home run, and Shawn Pemberton and Robert Kern also added homers.

Danny Simpher pitched the first four innings for the win, striking out six, walking one and allowing just two hits. The one run was unearned.

In relief, Jeff Lappe hurled two scoreless innings and Joe Scholl added one.

McDowell's returns to Capaha Field Saturday for a noon doubleheader against Fairview Heights, Ill.
