WEST FRANKFORT, Ill. -- James Beever homered twice and went 3-for-4 with three RBIs as the Craftsman Union Capahas ripped host Herrin 12-4 Wednesday night.

Jody Gajewski homered, went 2-for-3 and reached base four times for the Capahas (6-3). Josh Eftink went 3-for-6, while Denver Stuckey drove home two runs.

The Capahas scored four in the fourth, one in the seventh, two in the eighth and five in the ninth.

Aaron Gurley picked up the win. He went six innings and gave up four runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out seven. Kyle Perry pitched three innings of relief, striking out six. He allowed four hits and walked none.

splits with Sikeston

The Cape Girardeau Best Mortgage Junior Legion team lost its first game of the year Tuesday night in a doubleheader split with visiting Sikeston. Sikeston won the first game 6-1 and Cape rebounded with an 8-4 victory.

John Thies suffered the loss in the first game, while Lee Essner won the nightcap. Essner struck out 10 and walked one. He allowed four runs on 10 hits.

Sikeston's Blake DeWitt went 5-for-8 in the doubleheader.

The results for Best Mortgage's doubleheader at Imperial Wednesday night were not available when the Southeast Missourian went to press.
