The Cape Girardeau Ford & Sons American Legion baseball team won Saturday to qualify for today's championship bracket in the Paducah, Ky., tournament.

Cape finished pool play with a 2-1 record after beating Shelbyville, Ky., 1-0. That came after Friday's 10-0 loss to Columbia, Tenn.

Ford & Sons (13-12) wound up second in Pool A and will play at 1:15 p.m. today against either Ballwin, Mo., or Festus, Mo.

Lance Young pitched a four-hit shutout and drove in the only run to lift Cape past Shelbyville, Ky. Young struck out six and walked one in seven innings. In the bottom of the fifth, his two-out triple plated Tyler Propst, who had reached on an error. Young had two of Cape's three hits.

Scott County was eliminated on Saturday despite collecting twice as many hits as Harrisburg, Ill., in a 7-5 loss. Scott County went 1-2 in pool play.

Scott County (10-7) had 12 hits to just six for Harrisburg.

Trent Moses went 4-for-4 for Scott County and had all five RBIs. Blake Dirnberger added three hits and Jacob Essner had two.

Scott County's pitchers aided Harrisburg with nine walks. Losing pitcher Andy Stephens issued eight walks and allowed four hits in three innings.

Jackson was also eliminated on Saturday, falling to Ballwin, Mo., 3-2 as the team went 0-3 in pool play.

Nick Roe allowed three hits for Jackson (9-14) but was hurt by six walks. Brandon Cooper went 3-for-3, Ryan Cheney added two hits and Brett Groenig drove in both runs.
