The Cape Girardeau Ford & Sons Post 63 Senior American Legion baseball team had an enjoyable evening Tuesday.
Cape swept a doubleheader from visiting Tri-Counties, Ky., at Capaha Field, rallying for a 3-2 win in the opener and romping 10-0 in the five-inning, run-rule nightcap.
Post 63 improved its record to 9-7 while Tri-Counties was playing its first games of the season.
Cape trailed 2-1 entering its final at-bat in the bottom of the seventh inning of the opener.
Wyatt Isom led off with a walk, Blaine Crow doubled and Calvin Lovig walked to load the bases with none out.
Chase Eubank walked to force in the tying run. Josh Morse hit a ground ball that resulted in a force out at home but an ensuing throw was wild for an error as the winning run scored.
Ryan Ochoa pitched all seven innings for the victory. He allowed just three hits and worked around six walks along with two hit batters. He struck out three.
Ochoa also had two of Cape's four hits.
Cape pounded out nine hits in the lopsided nightcap. Morse had three hits, Isom tripled twice and Lovig added two hits.
Trevor Propst fired a one-hit shutout. He struck out five and walked two while working all five innings.
The Cape Plaza Junior Legion baseball team swept a doubleheader from the Jackson Junior Babe Ruth squad Tuesday at Saxony Lutheran High School.
Cape won the opener 12-2, then took the nightcap 4-3.
Gabe Haas was the winning pitcher in the opener, allowing four hits in four innings. He struck out four and walked one.
Noah Dillingham, Logan Callahan and Kaleb Ward all had two hits for Cape. Dillingham and Ward both had two RBIs.
Nick Jones got the win on the mound in the second game, allowing one hit in three innings. He struck out six and walked five. Dillingham recorded the save.
Justin Vaught, Connor McGarr, Ethan Hunter and Haas each had an RBI for Cape (10-7).
