The Cape Girardeau Ford & Sons Post 63 American Legion baseball team scored two runs in the top of the seventh to break a tie and defeat the New Madrid Senior Babe Ruth squad 10-8 and salvage a doubleheader split Monday night.
Cramer Mcgarr and Connor Mcgarr both went 2 for 4 for Cape, which improved to 11-9. Trevor added a double and three RBIs, while Josh Morse also had three RBIs, including a game-winning two-run single in the seventh. Matt Chism walked three times, stole three bases and scored two runs.
Chase Hagerty, the fourth Post 63 pitcher, did not allow a hit over the final 1 2/3 innings for the win. He struck out four and walked one.
Post 63 scored four runs in the second and took a 8-3 lead into the bottom of the sixth, but New Madrid pulled even with five runs.
New Madrid won the opener 9-7.
Hagerty and Ryan Tegel both had two hits for Cape. Hagerty had two RBIs, while Trevor Propst had a double.
Jon Kellens hit a home run and had three RBIs for New Madrid.
