BLYTHEVILLE, Ark. -- Cape Girardeau's Ford & Sons American Legion baseball team improved to 6-0 on the season with a victory in the opening round of the Cason Classic Friday afternoon.
Behind a two-run triple by Jeremy Johnson, Cape Legion defeated Dunklin County 6-0 to move into today's winner's bracket semifinal game.
Cape Legion will face Caruthersville, a winner over Paragould, Ark., at 4 p.m.
Chad Bogenpohl picked up the win with a two-hit performance. Bogenpohl walked two and struck out six.
Johnson, Lance Craft and Scot Wanamaker each had a pair of hits in a nine-hit attack. Robert Kern and Ben Arbeiter added doubles. Wanamaker and Arbeiter each had an RBI.
Cape Legion broke out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning with the aid of three walks and a Dunklin County error.
Johnson upped the lead to 4-0 in the fourth with his triple. Ford & Sons added two more runs in the sixth to complete the scoring.
