The Cape Girardeau Ford & Sons American Legion baseball team stopped a four-game losing streak to start its season by picking up a win in the second game of a home doubleheader Saturday at Notre Dame Regional High School.

Ford & Sons lost the opener to Farmington 11-3 behind seven errors. In the finale, Jason Umfleet pitched a complete game to help Ford and Sons pick up its first win 7-1. Umfleet struck out six in seven innings and allowed only three hits.

Umfleet's teammate this season at Central, Sean Bard, provided the offensive fireworks. Bard hit a two-run home run as Ford and Sons only had three hits in the win. Bard and Cory Huskey had two hits apiece in the opener.

Jackson wins three of four

Jackson's Remax Achievers American Legion squad had a solid weekend, winning three of four games to improve to 5-1 on the season.

Jackson split a Friday home doubleheader with Metropolis, Ill., losing 16-15 and winning 15-5. The Remax Achievers then swept host De Soto on Saturday, romping 12-2 and 17-3.

Brandon Gendron had a huge weekend for Jackson, getting 10 hits and driving in 15 runs. Gendron had two home runs.

Jason Meystedt was also strong with seven hits, two homers and seven RBIs.

Austin Morrison, Josh Snell and A.J. Seiler were the winning pitchers.
