The Cape Girardeau Wood & Huston Bank Junior American Legion baseball team split a doubleheader with visiting Chaffee Tuesday night.
Chaffee won the opener 7-1 behind the pitching of Justin Simpher, who allowed just three hits and no earned runs in going the seven-inning distance. He struck out five and walked five.
Simpher also stood out offensively with three hits, including a home run. Travis Hanback had three hits while Perry Rice and Todd Friend added two each.
Jay Pierce was the losing hurler.
Cape came back to win the nightcap 9-6. Rob Carr got the victory, working six innings. Justin Welker earned a save by pitching a scoreless seventh.
Welker and Dusty Barrows each had two hits for Cape.
Matt Stroup led Chaffee with four hits while Rice and Garrett Cook added two each. John O'Rourke was the losing hurler.
Both teams are now 6-2. Cape is 5-1 in district play.
