CAPE JR. LEGION REMAINS PERFECT

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Cape Girardeau Best Mortgage Junior Legion improved to 17-0 on the season with a pair of victories over Perryville.

Best Mortgage won the opener 11-6 and cruised to a 20-5 victory in the nightcap, banging out 36 hits in the process.

Lee Essner allowed just two hits in picking up the win in the opener. He struck out five and walked one.

Matt Wulfers and Mark Dunaway each had three hits for Cape while teammates Seth Hudson, Aaron Dohogne, Josh Ford and Chris Daniel had two apiece.

In the nightcap, Cape broke up an 11-5 game with nine runs in the top of the seventh.

Jason Gibson recorded the win, allowing four hits, striking out five and walking five.

Wulfers and Collin Schermann each had four hits in the game. Hudson, Ford, Blake Urhahn and Clay Schermann all had three hits.

Scott City Sr. BabeRuth sweeps Chaffee

Scott City picked up a pair of wins, defeating Chaffee 8-2 in the first game of a doubleheader before slipping by for a 6-5 victory in the nightcap.

Steven Posey was the winning pitcher in the opener, allowing seven hits, striking out 10 and walking four.

David Manley, Bobby Taylor and Jarod Scheniman each had two hits for Scott City (5-3). Scheniman's hits included a double and a triple.

Jordan Comer collected the win in the second game. He gave up six hits, struck out four and walked three.

Doug Kuenert led the way for Scott City with a 3-for-4 performance. Kuenert had two doubles and four RBIs. Dustin Benson added a pair of hits.

SEMO Fast-Pitch

Softball Tournament

Both local teams were effectively eliminated from contention at the SEMO Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament Saturday as both the Heartland Heat and Heartland Travelers went 1-2 in pool play in the Women's Open division.

Pool play will continue today with the pool winners meeting in a 4 p.m. championship game.
