Cape Central girls basketball senior Ki Bogan reached the 1,000-point milestone on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at Notre Dame Regional High School.

Bogan, a four-year varsity player accomplished the feat on a free throw, which was the last of her nine total points in the 50-15 loss. Head coach Aaron Lee called a timeout after the basket and allowed Bogan to celebrate with her teammates.

Although the team was not on their home court, fans dressed in both orange and blue gave her a standing ovation. Bogan said she never thought she would reach the 1,000-point mark in her career.

“At the beginning of my freshman year, I never thought I would get my thousand points,” Bogan said. “My coach told me to keep my head up and keep pushing so therefore it made me get to my thousand points.”

Coach Lee had high praises for Bogan after the game, explaining how much she has improved this season and how much that has helped the team.

“The thing we appreciate about Ki is her willingness to do a little bit of everything, offensively and defensively. Her leadership has definitely improved and that has been a key to our success,” Lee said. “Her willingness to go to the basket, when she's always the smallest on the court shows a level of toughness that also permeates to our team. The energy that she brings to the game is something that we really feed off and is valued in our program.”

Although Bogan was excited about the night she already has her sights set on the Class 5 District 1 Tournament where the Tigers will clash with Festus at 8:30 p.m. on March 2 at Farmington High School.

“We’re probably gonna have our ups and downs but I think we will have a good game against Festus,” Bogan said. “The next one could be Notre Dame so I think we can come back and get Notre Dame.”
