A common theme all season long for the Cape Central Tigers has been senior leadership and that proved to be the case again as the Tigers blew by the Kennett Indians 60-25 on Monday at Cape Central High School.

Cape Central honored four seniors in Ki Bogan, Taylor Horton, Keri Williams and Grace Patrick.

The Tigers got the offense going early and often as the Tigers jumped out to a 28-6 lead after the first quarter.

“I’m really proud of us,” Williams said. “All four of us have been playing forever and we still pushed through even with injuries.”

Cape Central coach Aaron Lee has seen his seniors improve the most this season in their communication on the court.

“They hold themselves and each other accountable,” Lee said. “As we’ve gotten into the season I’ve seen them hold their teammates accountable, hold themselves to a high standard in practice and in games and it allows the young kids to see how that looks.”

The Tigers kept rolling on both ends of the court as they took a 44-12 lead into the locker room at halftime.

“I think we’re getting better in all the key areas,” Lee said. “Our communication, our defensive intensity and our attention to detail has gotten much better in the last four to five weeks. We didn’t let up (tonight). In the past, we’ve had big leads and lost them. Our intensity stayed where it needed to be so that was very good for us to see.”

Lee said the improvement in communication has made the Tigers a better team defensively.

“When you communicate you can play harder,” Lee said. “When you communicate your rotations are better, you can help and recover, and you can shift. I think what you’re seeing is a microcosm of our kids buying into the defensive end of the court and our defense leads to our offense.”

Senior Grace Patrick said the win on senior night was special.

“It shows that the rest of the team really cares about us (seniors),” Patrick said. “They really care for their seniors.”

Leading the charge for Cape Central was Ki Bogan who posted a game-high 24 points in the win. Taylor Horton had 18 to follow up Bogan’s big night.

For the Indians, it was Tayja Carter who had 12 points in the loss. Taleigh Harrell had 7 points for the Indians.

Kennett (14-7) resumes play at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9 when the Indians host the Saxony Lutheran Crusaders for senior night at Kennett High School.

Cape Central (11-9) will look to continue its recent success at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9 when the Tigers welcome the Dexter Bearcats to Cape Central High School.
