Cape Girardeau Central High School left no doubt as to which softball team is the best in Cape Girardeau -- at least at this point in the early season -- as the Lady Tigers disposed of visiting Notre Dame 12-0 in five innings Wednesday.

Holly Schnurbusch was the winning pitcher for Central, which improved its record to 2-0. She struck out four and walked two.

Megan McDonald, Sarah Muench, Ashley Foutch and Alex Wieser each had two hits for Central. Foutch drove in three runs while Amber Voerg added two RBIs.

Mika Williamson suffered the loss for Notre Dame, which fell to 1-1.

Notre Dame's junior varsity team defeated Cape Central 4-1.

JACKSON, Mo. --Jackson lost its season opener as a solid Notre Dame squad from St. Louis had 11 hits and also took advantage of six errors.

Ashley Snell was the losing hurler even though she allowed just two earned runs.

Lindsey Meyr had two of Jackson's five hits and she also stole two bases. Heidi Jansen drove in the Lady Indians' lone run.

Jackson's JV lost 7-5.

St. Pius 5, St. Vincent 3

FESTUS, Mo. -- St. Vincent suffered its second close loss in as many games.

St. Vincent, which lost to Notre Dame 5-4 Tuesday, scored three runs on three hits, while St. Pius scored five runs on six hits and six walks.

Amanda Carron, Nicole Hadler and Jean Brown had the Lady Indians' hits, while Amanda Brown scored two runs for St. Vincent.

Julie Hager suffered the loss in two innings. Stephanie Brown and Jessica Kern pitched in relief.
