Cape Central softball edges Notre Dame 3-2

MaShanda Reed drove in two runs as host Central avenged a loss suffered earlier this season with a 3-2 win over Notre Dame in softball action on Tuesday.

Kadie Orenstein was the winning pitcher, allowing four hits and striking out seven. She also went 2 for 3 at the plate for the Tigers (11-5). Morgan Duschell added two hits.

Nikki Peters took the loss in the circle. She allowed seven hits and recorded two strikeouts.

Carson Freeman had a double to pace the Bulldogs (16-4).

Central scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings after Notre Dame had scored both its runs in the top of the second.

Notre Dame had previously posted a 3-0 home win over Central.

Saxony Lutheran 2, Portageville 1

Grace Mirly and Ashlynn Collier each laced a triple to lead the Crusaders in the win at home.

Ashley Steck got the win in the circle for Saxony Lutheran (12-5). She pitched a complete game, giving up one earned run on three hits with eight strikeous and two walks.

Taylor Tiffany was the losing pitcher. She allowed two earned runs over six innings on seven hits with nine strikeouts and one walk.

The Bulldogs pulled out a narrow victory over the host Bearcats (8-3) in a game that was completed without the benefit of lights.

Notre Dame (9-2) sealed the win when Adele Soutar won her match 8-4 over Erica Morgan.

Ryan Palmer scored two goals and had one assist to lead the Crusaders to victory on the road.

Mitchell Cramer scored the other goal for Saxony Lutheran (3-7), while Luke LeGrand and Cory Williams each had an assist.

The Crusaders scored all three of their goals in the second half after the Eagles struck in the first half.

Goalkeeper Zach Beal snagged 11 saves for Saxony Lutheran.

Notre Dame 2, Carbondale (Ill.) 1

Ben Parsons scored both of the goals unassisted to lead the Bulldogs (6-4) in the road win.

Luke Schlichting netted two goals as the Pirates won their pool-play opener in the Hillsboro tournament.

Iann Bergman, Juan Hernandez and Matt Moran also scored goals for the Pirates (11-2).

Kyle Wood had three assists, while Emmanuel Miranda and Emilio Mattingly each had one.

Perryville continues pool play against Maplewood at 5:40 p.m. Thursday in Hillsboro, Mo. The Pirates will also play North County at 5:40 p.m. Friday before Saturday's finals.
