MURPHYSBORO, Ill. -- On a very windy day, Cape Central's boys placed second, Jackson's boys were seventh and Jackson's girls finished third in the Murphysboro Invitational Saturday.

Central's girls did not participate; they were scheduled to be involved in the Jackie Joyner Kersee Invitational, which was rained out.

Central's 77 points placed it second behind host Murphysboro's 88 in the boys meet. Jackson finished with 34.5 points.

Jackson's girls scored 89 points. Mt. Vernon won the meet and Murphysboro was second.

Central's Will Harris won the long jump with a leap of 20-7. The 4x800 relay team of Mike Stone, John Anderson, Ben Chisman and Rory Kipper also won in nine minutes.

Due to the horrible conditions, the pole vault was scrapped. Central coach Jerry Dement said that probably cost his team the meet.

For the Lady Indians, the 4x800 relay team of Christy Thoma, Sarah Stiegemeyer, Beth Becker and Adrian King won in 11:28.

Jackson's boys' highest finishes were third-places in discus, 4x400 relay and 4x800 relay.
