Cape Girardeau Central High School's girls basketball team notched its second straight home victory as the Lady Tigers rolled past De Soto 54-35 Wednesday night.

Six players scored at least seven points for the Lady Tigers as they improved their record to 9-6.

"It was a good game for us," said Central coach Mark Ruark. "We played great defense and I was real pleased overall with the way we played."

Katie Dougherty paced the Lady Tigers' balanced offensive attack with 12 points. Alex Wieser followed with nine.

De Soto's high-scoring Hannah Latham, who was averaging 24 points per game, was held to 11.

"We really did a good job on their best player," Ruark said.

The Lady Tigers grabbed a 16-10 lead after one quarter and went ahead 28-15 by halftime. De Soto pulled to within 38-30 after three quarters, but Central had a 16-5 final-period edge to pull away for good.

Central lost the JV game 42-38 despite 15 points by Laura Beard.

The Lady Tigers will play their fourth game in six days when they visit Charleston tonight.
