ST. LOUIS -- The Cape Central Tigers ended a seven-game losing streak in dramatic fashion, hitting the tying shot in the waning seconds of regulation before defeating Mehlville 70-61 in overtime Friday night.
Michael Cox deposited an offensive rebound with six seconds left in regulation to complete a late rally and tie the game at 59-59. Cape Central (3-11) had trailed by five points with 2:37 left in game.
The Tigers, who never led the entire second half, proceeded to outscore Mehlville 11-2 in overtime.
Matt Cardin, Michael Cox and Jordan White accounted for all the overtime points for Central. Cox, who scored a team-high 16 points on the night, scored two in overtime. White scored five of his 14 in overtime while Cardin deposited four of his seven.
Keon Raymond scored a game-high 29 points for Oakville.
Cape Central took a 13-9 lead into the second quarter, but saw Mehlville move ahead 29-24 by halftime. Central cut the deficit to 35-34 by the start of the fourth quarter, but never moved ahead until overtime
St. Vincent 69, Grandview 59
HILLSBORO, Mo. -- St. Vincent had three players with at least 17 points as the Indians improved to 11-3 overall and 4-0 in the Jefferson County Conference.
Mark Gotto, who hit three from behind the arc, led St. Vincent with 21 points, followed by Tyler Wengert with 19 and Ryan Brown with 17.
Pathway 66, Eagle Ridge 42
BLYTHEVILLE, Ark. -- Pathway jumped out to a 13-point first quarter lead and cruised to victory past Eagle Ridge.
Andrew Mellies scored 16 points to pace Eagle Ridge (6-10) and teammates Kris Dodson and Mike Probst scored 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Perryville 50, Hillsboro 44, OT
HILLSBORO, Mo. -- Andrew Meyr scored 13 points and Chad Ozark added 10 as Perryville defeated Hillsboro in overtime.
Regulation ended with the score tied 40-40 and the Pirates (9-7, 3-1 Jefferson County Conference) outscored Hillsboro 50-44 in the extra session.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Eagle Ridge 43, Pathway 40
BLYTHEVILLE, Ark. -- Eagle Ridge avenged a loss suffered earlier this season, holding off a furious Pathway rally in the fourth quarter.
Amber Karnes led Eagle Ridge (8-3) with 15 points while Rachel Carbaugh scored a career-high 10 points.
BOYS SWIMMING
SLUH 137, Cape Central 49
Cape Central's swimmers posted their first state qualifying time of the season as they found a bright spot in a decisive loss to St. Louis University High.
Cape Central's lone victory came in the 200 freestyle relay where Andrew Morten, Stratton Tingle, Sam Maguire and Gabe Austin teamed up to win.
The state qualifying time came in the 400 freestyle as Jon Lowrance, Morten, Maguire and Tingle trimmed 10 seconds off the team's previous low, placing second in 3:35.74.
