GOREVILLE, Ill. -- The McDowell Capahas ran their record to 13-3 Sunday with a convincing doubleheader sweep over host Goreville.
The Caps took the first game 11-4 and won the second game 10-2.
In the opener, Ronnie Lewellen got the win in seven innings. He allowed three earned runs on seven hits and two walks, while striking out seven.
Zach Borowiak and Cory Crosnoe each went 3-for-4 for the Caps. Phil Warren hit a three-run homer and Shane Allen had two of the Caps' 13 hits.
In the second game, the Caps scored 10 runs on 12 hits, while Goreville managed just two runs on nine hits.
Jerry Wolsey picked up the win. He went five innings and allowed one run on five hits and no walks while striking out three.
Chad Bogenpohl pitched an inning of relief and allowed one run while Jeffrey Hilz closed out the game.
Kevin Meyer went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two stolen bases while Chris Sledge and Borowiak each had two hits, two stolen bases and two RBIs
Tom Bolen had two hits, including a home run.
The Caps never trailed in either game.
Chaffee sweeps Poplar Bluff
POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- The Medicap Pharmacy Chaffee Senior Legion team swept a doubleheader from Poplar Bluff, but it didn't come easy.
Chaffee posted a 6-3 win in the opener, then pulled out a 4-3 win over Poplar Bluff in the nightcap.
Justin Simpher picked up the win in the first inning in going all seven innings. He gave up three runs, one earned, on four hits, one walk and one hit batsman. He also struck out nine.
Brad Kolwyck had the biggest hit of the game, a two-run homer in the first inning. Andrew DePeder had three hits.
In the second game, Josh Eftink picked up the win in relief. He went 1 2/3 innings. He fanned two and walked one. Starter Scott Eftink went 5 1/3 and allowed three runs, all earned, on four hits and a walk while striking out five.
No Chaffee player had more than one hit in the second game, but Todd Friend and Josh Eftink each tripled.
Chaffee is now 9-1.
Cape Jr. Legion sweeps
CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Cape Girardeau's junior legion baseball team recorded a doubleheader sweep over Charleston, winning the first game 13-1 and the second game 17-4.
In the first game, John Thies picked up the win, going five innings and giving up one unearned run on just four hits and one walk. He struck out seven.
Shane Kistner and Chris Conrad each had two hits in the opener.
In the second game, Scott Wittenborn went four innings for the win. He allowed four runs, two earned, on five hits and three walks. He struck out four.
Mitch Craft led the way for Cape (9-14) offensively with three hits. Eric Grabel and Trenton Estes had two hits apiece.
