The Kohlfeld Capahas split a pair of games with Waterloo, Ill., Saturday night, rallying in the bottom of the seventh of the opener for a 4-3 victory before falling 10-8 in the nightcap.

In the opener, the Capahas (26-11) trailed 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning and saw their first two batters retired. Ryan Murphy kept the game alive with a single and Shawn Pemberton followed with a double. Both players scored on Steve Kress' double to tie the game 3-3. Derek Smith then delivered his second hit of the game for the victory.

Richie Phillips went the distance and notched the win. He allowed seven hits, struck out four and walked four.

Tim Ellis and Murphy also had two hits in Kohlfeld's 11-hit attack.

In the nightcap, Waterloo struck for seven runs in the second inning off losing pitcher Aaron Rider. The Capahas had scored four runs in the bottom of the first for a 4-0 lead.

Waterloo added three runs in the third for a 10-4 advantage and held on.

Ellis paced the Capahas with four hits, including a home run, and four RBI. Murphy finished with three hits and two RBI.

The Capahas and Waterloo conclude their weekend series today at 1 p.m. at Capaha Park.
