WATERLOO, Ill. -- The Kohlfeld Capahas lost their first game of the season, but battled back to win the nightcap of a doubleheader Friday against Waterloo.
The Caps dropped the first game 11-10 but came back in the late game to take a 7-3 decision. The split put the Capahas record at 20-1 entering a doubleheader rematch against Waterloo (23-2) at Caphaha Field. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
Darrin Kinsolving almost won the first game for the Capahas with a two-out, two-strike, three run home run in the top of the seventh to put the Caps up 10-9. But Waterloo scored two runs in the bottom half of the seventh to hand the Capahas their first loss of the year.
Kevin Vent took the loss in relief of Chad Bogenpohl for Kohlfeld. The Capahas had 13 hits in the loss.
Cory Crosnoe had two home runs and three RBIs to keep the Caps in the first game. Julio Vega also crushed a mammoth three-run homer to right field in the third inning to put the Caps ahead 5-4.
In the nightcap, Crosnoe cracked another home run and Brandon West went the distance on the mound to salvage a split.
West walked only one in seven innings, striking out two and allowing nine hits. Crosnoe had an RBI double and a solo home run to right-center field to lead Kohlfeld's 10-hit attack.
Lance Craft, Tom Breuer and Shawn Pemberton also had two hits in the late game.
