Blake Slattery hit two long home runs to highlight the Plaza Tire Capahas' ninth straight win.

The Capahas improved to 20-3 with Tuesday night's 6-1 victory at Fairview Heights, Ill.

Slattery's homers were solo shots in the eighth and ninth innings to help the Capahas break open a close game late.

"They were both bombs," said Capahas manager Jess Bolen, whose squad has used wood bats all season.

Kody Campbell's RBI double in the second inning gave the Capahas a 1-0 lead. Fairview Heights tied it with a fifth-inning run.

That's the way things stood until the seventh inning when the Capahas went ahead for good on an RBI single by Trent Wise.

Slattery's blast highlighted the Capahas' two-run eighth inning, and his bomb capped their two-run ninth.

The Capahas had 13 hits, led by Sean Bard with three. Campbell and Kenton Parmley joined Slattery in getting two hits apiece.

Jordan Underwood pitched the first five innings, allowing five hits and one run. He struck out five and walked two.

Jacob Wente got the win with two scoreless innings. He allowed two hits

Wise earned a save with two scoreless frames. He gave up one hit.

The Capahas' scheduled doubleheader tonight at Valmeyer, Ill., was canceled because Valmeyer needs to make up league games.

Plaza Tire returns to action Sunday as the defending champion at the Union Printers national tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla.
