The Plaza Tire Capahas rolled to the title at last year's Union Printers tournament, outscoring their opponents 51-4.
Manager Jess Bolen's squad is off to another rousing start at this year's event in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The Capahas began the five-team tournament Sunday by routing a squad from Chicago 20-1 behind a 27-hit attack.
Plaza Tire, which improved to 21-3 with its 10th straight victory, will play again at 10 a.m. today against a club from Boston in the 103rd annual event that is billed as the oldest amateur baseball tournament in the United States.
"The guys really hit the ball well," Bolen said. "The pitching wasn't that great, obviously, but we swung the bats."
Jake Pewitt, Ky Burgess, Kody Campbell and Sean Bard all had four hits. Kenton Parmley followed with three hits. Dustin Hunter, Jordan Kimball and Michael Troth added two hits apiece.
Hunter had the game's lone home run. Pewitt, Burgess and Troth all drove in three runs. Hunter, Campbell and Bard each added two RBIs.
Jordan Underwood continued his strong pitching to notch the win. He allowed five hits in six shutout innings, striking out 13 and walking none.
"He's really been throwing the ball well," Bolen said.
Parmley, Johnny Troth and Kimball all pitched one inning to complete a nine-hitter. Kimball allowed a ninth-inning run.
