Capahas double their pleasure with win and NBC bid

The Craftsman Union Capahas learned Thursday afternoon that they received an at-large bid to the National Baseball Congress World Series.

Later Thursday, the Capahas went out and celebrated their 18th straight selection to the tournament in Wichita, Kan., by beating the host St. Louis Sox 8-1.

"It's great," said Capahas manager Jess Bolen of the bid. "We've played pretty decent this year. We maybe deserved it, but you never know if you're going to get it."

In Thursday's game, the Capahas (31-5) had 12 hits. Justin Welker led with four hits. Jon Payne, Wade Hansford and Tom Cigno all had two hits and two RBIs.

Nathan Baker allowed two hits and one run in eight innings for the win. He struck out six and walked two. Dave Lawson and Lance Seasor combined for a scoreless ninth.

The Capahas will play in the NBC World Series Aug. 2 against Pueblo, Colo., at a time to be determined. They have three more regular-season games before then.
