Chad Campbell shot a scrambling 71 Sunday to outlast Scott Verplank and Jesper Parnevik and win the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic.

Campbell's 1-under closing round put him at 25-under 335, three shots in front of Verplank and 2000 Hope champion Parnevik.

Verplank, one stroke off Campbell's lead to start the day, had a 73 and Parnevik made a charge with a 67 during a round when gusty wind at the new Classic Course at Northstar in Palm Desert, Calif.

John Huston finished fourth with a 68 and 339 total. Former Hope winners Phil Mickelson (71) and Mike Weir (70) tied for fifth with John Senden (73) at 19 under.

It was the sixth time Campbell entered the closing day of a tour event either tied for the lead or alone at the top -- and only the second time he came out with a victory. The only other time Campbell held onto a lead over the final 18 holes was in the 2003 Tour Championship. His only other tour victory was the 2004 Bay Hill Invitational.

He had stumbled a week earlier in Hawaii after being tied for the lead with David Toms to begin the final round. Toms won it with a 65, while Campbell had a 70 to drop into a second-place tie with Rory Sabbatini.

Campbell's closing round in the Hope bore little resemblance to his steady play the first four days, when he shot 63-66-68-67 and had only two bogeys. His final round included a double-bogey, two bogeys, three birdies, an eagle and several scrambling pars. He earned $900,000.

Champions Tour

Loren Roberts made a 30-foot birdie putt on the final hole for a course-record 11-under 61 and a one-stroke victory over Don Pooley on Sunday in the Champions Tour's season-opening MasterCard Championship.

Roberts, 50, had a 25-under 191 total on the Hualalai course in Kaupulehu, Hawaii, to shatter the Champions Tour record for relation to par in a 54-hole event and also finished with 26 birdies to break another tour record for a three-round tournament.

Roberts topped the tour mark of 22 under set by Ed Dougherty in the 2001 TD Waterhouse Championship.

Women's World Cup

Annika Sorenstam eagled the par-5 14th hole and offset a poor round by teammate Liselotte Neumann to lead Sweden to a three-stroke victory over Scotland in the Women's World Cup in Sun City, South Africa.

The Swedes finished at 7-under 281 on the Gary Player Country Club, with Sorenstam closing with a 70 and Neumann shooting a 77. They opened with a best-ball 65 on Friday and shot a 69 in alternate-shot play Saturday.

Catriona Matthew shot a 69, and Janice Moodie had a 72 for Scotland.

Wales, with Becky Brewerton and Becky Morgan shooting 74s, finished third at even par. Americans Paula Creamer and Natalie Gulbis shot 73s to finish fourth at 1 over.

Abu Dhabi Championship

Chris DiMarco won the European tour's Abu Dhabi Golf Championship in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, closing with a 5-under 67 for a one-stroke victory over third-round leader Henrik Stenson.

DiMarco finished at 20-under 268 for his first victory since the PGA Tour's 2002 Phoenix Open. Stenson shot a 69.

Sergio Garcia (66) finished third, two strokes back. Vijay Singh (70) tied for eighth, nine strokes behind the leader.
