Sissy Burnett and Sherrie Simmons carded a 67 to capture the championship in the Cape JC Chip-A-Ways Guest Day tournament on Tuesday at the Cape Jaycee Golf Course.

Burnett and Simmons won by one stroke over Charlotte West and Marie Ballard. Two teams -- Sharon Dow and Deanna Peterman and the team of Barb Johnson and Bette Belate -- tied for third place with 69s.

The tournament included 88 women and awarded top finishers in five flights.

Three teams scored 74s to lead the A flight. Linda Williams and Lil Angle were in that group with Dixie Jones and Margaret Sonders and the team of Cindy Schmall and Carolyn Torbet.

Topping the B flight with 77s were Helen Ezell and Janice Wheeler along with Betty Owens and Matilda Cain. Tying for runner-up honors with 78s were Pam Rose and LaDonna Stoelzle and the team of Cis Erlbacher and Betty Roth.

The C flight had a four-way tie at 81. Evelyn Riley and Joellen Haas tied Beth Mapes and Marcia Wagoner, Jackie Anderson and Janis Gilbert, and Elvia Percival and Elaine Hayden.

Flight D also had a four-way tie. Janet Esicar and Susan Vickery combined for an 84, as did Jan Weinhold and Penny Bowers, Bonnie Miller and Carol Crawford and the team of Betty Corzine and Sandra Schluter.

Weinhold scored a hole in one on the 18th hole. Angle won closest the to the pin honors on No. 3, while Dow was closest on No. 6 and Riley on No. 12.
