Senior Tyler Cuba had two goals and an assist and Notre Dame cruised to a 3-0 win Thursday night over visiting Jackson at home.
Despite wet conditions, the Bulldogs (9-4) had no problem stringing together passes and they dominated their possessions. Jackson (4-10-1) played only one forward and constantly packed themselves into their own defensive fourth.
Bulldogs coach Brad Wittenborn said he was particularly pleased with the defensive four, who allowed only a couple of scoring chances.
"The guys in the back are just playing great," he said.
Notre Dame opened scoring midway through the half on a cross from Tyler Cuba to Blake Urhahn. The play was typical of the Bulldogs' play all night --Notre Dame made four or five passes before Cuba played his perfect ball across the box.
Notre Dame midfielder Josh Essner said Thursday's game shows how much the team is starting to come together.
"This is the year we've all been waiting for," he said. "We all think this is the year we can do it."
Wittenborn said Cuba is starting to get back to the all-state form he showed earlier in the year before sitting out a few games due to a groin injury.
"Tonight that spring was back," he said.
Cuba ended first half scoring on a long shot outside the box that went off the post and in. David Kiblinger was credited with the assist.
For the Indians the offensive chances were few and far between. Jackson had several corner kick chances, but put the ball on net only a couple of times.
Indians goalkeeper Austin McDowell said the team was trying a new defensive scheme for Thursday's game..
"We played good, but we still need some improvements on defense though," he said.
Cuba accounted for all the scoring in the second half on a penalty kick goal. Travis Siebert picked up the shutout.
Jackson's JV won 1-0. Chris Bramlett scored the lone goal for Jackson.
