FREDERICKTOWN -- Notre Dame High's baseball team had its offense in high gear Wednesday as the Bulldogs pounded out 16 hits and belted five home runs during an 18-7 win over host Fredericktown. The game was stopped after six innings by the 10-run rule.
"We hit the ball real well today. Our offense was awesome," said Notre Dame coach Jeff Graviett, whose squad improved its record to 10-3. "Fredericktown was a good, solid ballclub. They had two big wins over Farmington and Potosi over the weekend, but we really had a good game."
Josh Eftink and Matt Bollinger each had two of Notre Dame's home runs. Eftink, who according to Graviett had one homer travel approximately 430 feet, now has five home runs on the season.
Eftink drove in six runs Wednesday while Bollinger had three RBIs to go along with three hits.
Adam Seyer had Notre Dame's other home run and finished with three RBIs. Tommy Wencewicz, Wes Steele and Todd Friend all added two hits for the Bulldogs.
Mark Ostendorf was the winning pitcher, although he was touched for nine hits and all seven runs in 4 1/3 innings. Ostendorf struck out four and walked two.
Eftink hurled the final 1 2/3 innings in hitless fashion. He fanned two and did not issue a walk.
SOFTBALL
Kelly 20, Chaffee 0
CHAFFEE -- Powerful Kelly handed Chaffee its first loss of the season in resounding fashion as the Lady Hawks posted a five-inning, run-rule romp. Both teams are now 10-1.
"Kelly has an excellent team and they really put it to us today," said Chaffee coach Mark Devenport. "My kids hung in there but we just couldn't get anything going."
Marissa Essner was the winning pitcher as she hurled a two-hitter, with six strikeouts and no walks.
Ashley Pepple gave up 15 hits in 4 2/3 to get the loss, but only five runs were earned as Chaffee committed 10 errors.
Kelly banged out 17 hits, led by Dana Essner with four, including two doubles. Marissa Essner had three hits, including a two-run homer in the first inning, while Audrey Burford also had three hits.
Advance 12, Bernie 7
BERNIE -- Shanna Winchester went 3-for-5 and was just a double shy of hitting for the cycle as Advance remained undefeated in the Stoddard County Conference.
Winchester hit a two-run homer which cleared the fence.
Also for Advance (7-3, 4-0), Jennifer Phelps had three hits including a double; Kristin Foster had two hits including a double and Amber Bond, the winning pitcher, had a triple and a single.
Bond pitched all seven innings. She struck out seven and allowed five walks.
GIRLS SOCCER
St. Pius 5, Notre Dame 1
Jamie Derleth scored four goals to lead St. Pius past Notre Dame.
The Lady Bulldogs (4-10-1) got their lone goal from Katie Mehner, with an assist from Katlyn Kelley.
"Derleth is an outstanding player and she was the difference in the game," said Notre Dame coach Jeff Worley.
Notre Dame's JV lost 1-0 and is now 3-6-2.
BOYS GOLF
Jackson wins triangular
JACKSON -- Jackson continued its dominance in dual and tri-meets with a home win over Valle of Ste. Genevieve and Ste. Genevieve at Kimbeland Country Club.
The Indians scored a 151 and improved to 12-0 in dual and tri-meets. Valle followed with a distant score of 169 and Ste. Gen scored a 170.
Jackson's Matt Litzelfelner was the individual medalist, shooting a par-35. He was followed by Peyton Sims (38), and Chris Pike and Nathan Brown, who each scored 39s.
Cape Central second
DEXTER -- Dexter won a home tri-meet against Cape Central and New Madrid County Central.
The Bearcats scored a 160, followed by Cape Central at 168 and New Madrid at 172.
Dexter's Kyle Christian was the individual medalist with a 37.
Scores for Cape Central (7-7) were Nick Harter 39, Josh Miller 40, Drew Christian 44 and Luke Oliver 45.
New Madrid was paced by Bill Scobey and Everett Gee, who each shot 42s.
TRACK & FIELD
Kelly girls win title
CHAFFEE -- Kelly's girls and Malden's boys won titles during the SEMO Southern Conference meet hosted by Chaffee.
Kelly won the six-team girls division with 110 points. Hayti was second with 95 and Chaffee took third with 72.
Malden ran away in the eight-team boys division with 184 points. Portageville (90) and Kelly (87) were next.
Kelly's girls won four evens, led by Jenny Riley, who captured the 1,600 and 3,200.
The boys individual standout was Kelly's Adam Daughhetee, who won three events: the 800, 1,600 and 3,200.

Jackson girls second
STE. GENEVIEVE -- Jackson's girls placed second out of 17 teams during the Ste. Genevieve Invitational.
Farmington won the meet with 98 points while Jackson had 79 and Herculaneum 71.
Individual winners for Jackson were Jennifer Love (300 hurdles) and Heidi Jansen (shot put). The Lady Indians also captured the 4x100 relay (Megan Kuntze, Jeanna Bolen, Rachel Smith, Lindsey Meyr) and 4x400 relay (Kuntze, Cailin Bricknell, Meyr, Love).
