Bulldogs avenge lone loss of season

The Notre Dame softball team avenged its lone loss of the season with a 5-2 victory in nine innings Tuesday at Poplar Bluff.

The Mules dealt the Bulldogs (8-1) their lone loss of the season Saturday night in the finals of the Notre Dame Softballfest.

On Tuesday, Beth Schnurbusch picked up the complete-game victory. She allowed five hits, struck out seven and walked two.

Bailey Reutzel, Heather Menz and Eden Ellison had two hits apiece for Notre Dame. Retuzel scored twice, and Menz and Ellison each added an RBI.

Kayla Seabaugh pitched a one-hitter to lead the Bobcats to their second victory of the season.

She struck out 11 and allowed only an unearned run in the top of the first inning.

The Bobcats (2-6) scored seven runs in the bottom of the first.

Seabaugh contributed two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs. Kacie Seabaugh and Sarah Blattel each added a double and an RBI.

Central picked up a sweep of conference foe Oran at home.

Kyla Valleroy led Central with four aces and eight assists. Wendi Zickfield added four blocks and three kills for the Tigers (2-3-1). Carissa Wheeler had four kills, and Melissa Espinoza had four aces.

Leopold 25 25 Meadow Hts. 23 19

The Wildcats improved to 3-0 with a win at home.

Jenny Vandeven had eight kills and Cassi Jansen added seven for Leopold. Cassie Seiler had 23 assists, while Kayla Trankle and Desiree Arnzen each had eight digs.

Bell City eased by Zalma on the road. Megan Slagley and Jessica Abner had 10 digs and five kills apiece, and Rachel Spears had eight digs and four kills for the Cubs (4-1-1).

Notre Dame swept Bernie in two games on the road.

Meridith Medlin had 12 assists and four kills for the Bulldogs (2-3-2). Destiny Dirnberger provided six digs, Claire Goodson had six kills and Kaitlyn Scheeter had four kills. Dirnberger and Allison Toole added nine service points.

Scott City remained unbeaten with a win against visiting New Madrid County Central

Lindsey Amick had 11 assists for the Rams (3-0). Kacie Ritter had five kills, and Valerie Gibbons had four kills.

Sarah Detring and Ellyn Beil posted singles and doubles victories to lead Jackson at home.

Sarah Heinkebein and Erin Haff each won a singles match, and Shannon Cobb and Alynda Lane teamed up for a doubles win for the Indians (2-3).
